Standard of Care & Defective Construction

Overview of standard of care & defective construction services

Standard of Care

When investigating a standard of care matter, certain aspects of a project may be assessed and reviewed against industry standards. This may include an assessment of project scope and performance criteria, project documentation, interdisciplinary design coordination, contract administration and the project implementation of design and construction roles, to ascertain whether industry and professional standards of reasonable care have been met.

Evaluating Construction Defects

Construction defects and failures are frequently the cause of project distress, disputes and catastrophic events. Defective construction results from four principal causes: inadequate design, incorrect or faulty materials, poor construction and/or improper installation of systems or components.

Using our in-depth industry experience, our experts can effectively evaluate construction defects.   The evaluation process initially involves investigation and characterization of an issue. That includes a comparison of the as-built structure with the original contract specification, design, manufacturer’s specifications, and good practice. Structural analysis, assessment and structural testing may also be included, together with recommendations for remedial works.
